Why Goals Are Important

Taking time for yourself

As mothers, it can often feel like our goals are constantly put on the back burner while tending to our children and families. I have recently started to take back a little time to get my mindset back on track and to feel more like me again.  I find setting intentions for myself and taking the time to achieve my goals can be incredibly rewarding. It allows me to focus on my goals and desires outside of motherhood, creating balance and harmony in my life and making me not only a better mother but a better wife and friend. In this blog post, we will discuss how to set intentions and achieve your goals so that you can make the most of your time out. 

I find myself dedicating all of my time and energy to my children and family. I know I am not alone in being this way and feeling like that is what is expected of me.  While this is admirable and necessary sometimes, taking time out for ourselves is equally important. This is not a luxury but is essential for our well-being and mental health.

This allows us to recharge our batteries, rejuvenate our minds, and refocus our priorities. It gives us the space to connect with ourselves, our values, and our goals, and gain a fresh perspective on our life. This, in turn, helps us become a better mother, partner, friend and individual.

Neglecting our needs and putting our own desires on hold can lead to feelings of frustration, resentment, and even burnout. I know myself that I have experienced this on a number of occasions, mainly because I get mum guilt and can think of 1000 things I should be doing rather than taking that time for myself. As the old saying goes, you cannot pour from an empty cup. Therefore, it is crucial to make ourselves a priority and take time out to replenish our energy and nurture our souls.

If you are like me I often have to keep reminding myself that, taking time out for myself is not a selfish act but an act of self-love and self-care. So, take the time to schedule a spa day, read a book, or just sit in silence. You deserve it! 

Taking time out for yourself is not only important for your own well-being, but it also sets a positive example for your children. When they see you prioritizing your own needs and passions, they learn the importance of self-care and self-love. It teaches them that it is okay to put themselves first and pursue their own goals and dreams.

Goal Setting

In addition to taking time out for yourself, setting goals and intentions for your personal growth and fulfilment is equally important. Goals provide direction and purpose in your life, giving you something to strive for and a sense of achievement when you accomplish them. By setting clear and specific goals, you can ensure that you are making progress towards the life you desire.

When setting goals, it is important to reflect on your priorities and values. What matters most to you? What do you want to achieve in your personal and professional life? Taking the time to identify your core values and align your goals with them will help you stay motivated and focused.

One effective method for setting goals is to use the SMART framework. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. By setting goals that are specific, measurable, and time-bound, you can create a clear roadmap for achieving them.

Creating a self-care routine that nurtures your physical, mental, and emotional well-being will help aid in the process of setting goals. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, journaling, or engaging in hobbies that bring you joy. Remember, self-care is not selfish; it is an essential part of maintaining your overall health and happiness.

Of course, setting goals and practising self-care can be challenging, especially when juggling the demands of motherhood. It is important to identify and overcome any obstacles that may stand in your way. This may involve delegating tasks, writing a to-do list, asking for support, or simply just re-evaluating your priorities. This is something I myself have struggled with in recent times – asking for help!

Finally, don’t forget to celebrate your achievements along the way. Recognize and reward yourself for reaching milestones and accomplishing your goals. At the same time, be open to adjusting your goals as your priorities and circumstances change. So, start by carving out a few minutes each day to focus on yourself. This may involve waking up earlier than your kids to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace or taking a relaxing bath before bedtime. Whatever it is, make sure to schedule it and prioritize it just like you would any other important task.

Remember, taking time out for yourself and setting goals and intentions for your personal growth is not a luxury, but a necessity. It is an investment in your own well-being and a way to live your life with intention and purpose. As a mother, you deserve to prioritize yourself and pursue your own goals and dreams. So, go ahead, take that time-out, and set those intentions. You got this!
